Earth in Brackets
Earth in Brackets started as a logo developed by a group of College of the Atlantic students preparing to attend the UN Climate Negotiations in Nairobi in 2006. From there it has grown into an internationally recognized symbol representing the political mess we’re in. We believe international cooperation is not only possible, but necessary if we are to address our most pressing problems. Any lasting solution needs to include as many people as possible. The Eco Practicum community is part of a growing network of activists who are innovating environmental education, challenging conventional rhetoric, and offering practical solutions. Generation Citizen
Over the course of the twice-weekly semester-long in-class program, students choose an issue they want to tackle in their own community, develop a focused, strategic plan to address an issue they care about, and then take real action on it. Students lobby elected officials, write opinion pieces for newspapers, and make documentaries to advance solutions to important community issues. Through direct engagement in real-world advocacy, guided by near-peer college Democracy Coaches and teachers, students gain the civic knowledge, skills, and motivation necessary to effect change in their communities. J Street
J Street is the political home for pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans fighting for the future of Israel as the democratic homeland of the Jewish people. We believe that Israel’s Jewish and democratic character depend on a two-state solution, resulting in a Palestinian state living alongside Israel in peace and security. CONTACT PERSON: Dana Mandler |

Spectrum
The group began as a collective of students focusing on LGBT issues, through discussion, community building, and educating. These identities are still heavily discussed by spectrum, however, today students are widening the discussion to include a variety of important topics such as race, gender identity, women's right, and economic issues. The group facilitates weekly discussion, and provides a supportive group within the larger COA community through campus wide events. CONTACT PERSON: Vallie Rourke |
United Students Against Sweatshops @ Rutgers
USAS works to advocate for workers' rights, especially in overseas factories. This is Not an Ulpan
This is Not an Ulpan (TINAU) is for learning language through critical education. "We don't learn Hebrew, we learn in Hebrew." The goal is not to learn grammar or spelling, but about Israeli society and its complexity. We don't hide the tough realities of this place -- we actively and critically engage with them...in Hebrew.
