What is Hashomer Hatzair?Hashomer Hatzair is a socialist-Zionist youth movement dedicated to secular Judaism, a just Israel, equity in all spheres of social life, and solidarity with all peoples. Founded in Europe in 1913, it was one of the motors of the Israeli Kibbutz Movement, a major player on the Israeli Left, a leader of the ghetto uprisings in Europe during the Holocaust, and has always been a steadfast proponent for peace and coexistence between Jews and Arabs.
Today, Hashomer Hatzair is active in Australia, Europe, Israel, Latin America, and North America. |
Who are we?We are the Bogrim of Hashomer Hatzair North America (HHNA). We are young adults who have grown up with each other at summer camp, and are or have been leaders in our respective branches in either New York or Toronto. We strive towards social justice in our communities through the creation of organizations and partnerships with others.

Our Vision and MissionHashomer Hatzair North America works with youth to build progressive Jewish values, links to Israel, community, and a commitment to social, environmental and economic justice in a setting based on youth leadership and responsibility.
Since 1923, Hashomer Hatzair provides the highest quality youth-led informal education, enabling its youth members to take full responsibility for their education, culture, principles and active community participation while building life-long friendships. Through year-round programming and summer activities at Camp Shomria, each age group, led by youth leaders, learns and grows together in a setting that promotes and models youth leadership, individual excellence, mutual responsibility, social, environmental and economic justice, respect and cooperation. |
